Portorož and Piran are well connected with nearby towns and major towns across Slovenia and abroad. Passengers can travel comfortably with modern coaches operated by Arriva, Nomago, and FlixBus, offering routes to Ljubljana, Koper, Trieste, Venice, and other destinations.
A local town bus runs frequently between Piran, Portorož, and Strunjan, using a contactless payment system under the Piran Municipal Transport network. In Piran, visitors can also use a mini bus service, which connects major parking areas with Tartini Square via two regular routes, offering an easy and eco-friendly way to access the historic old town.

Arriva

Arriva is Slovenia’s largest provider of scheduled bus services. Their routes offer comfortable, reliable, and affordable travel between Portorož & Piran and major inland towns such as Ljubljana, Maribor, and Postojna. The Slovenian coast is well connected – especially Koper, Izola, Portorož, and Piran – as are nearby rural villages. Buses are accessible for passengers with limited mobility.
Tickets can be purchased with cash only.

Nomago

Nomago offers reliable intercity connections across Slovenia, with especially strong routes to and from Koper, connecting further to Ljubljana, Postojna, Celje, Velenje, Laško, and Nova Gorica.
In the Savinja region, Nomago connects Celje, Velenje, and Laško; in the Goriška region, routes extend to Nova Gorica, Solkan, Bovec, Tolmin, and Kobarid – perfect for travel between tourist destinations and urban hubs.

FlixBus

FlixBus offers affordable and comfortable long-distance travel from Portorož to major towns in Slovenia and abroad. Regular lines run to Ljubljana, Trieste, Venice, Vienna, Bratislava, Rovinj, Umag, and more.

Onboard amenities include Free Wi-Fi, Power outlets, Restrooms, enabling a comfortable journey. Tickets must be booked online or via the FlixBus app. No printing required—just show the ticket on your smartphone at boarding.

Local Public Transport in Piran, Portorož & Strunjan

Piran Municipal Transport offers two lines that operate frequently for convenient local travel:

Line 1: Piran – Beli Križ – Portorož – Lucija – Piran

Line 2: Piran – Portorož – Strunjan – Piran
(Runs daily including holidays)

Tickets can be purchased at green Arriva vending machines or directly on the bus. Prices vary depending on the payment method:

  • »Single City Card Piran« (recommended for families & groups);
    Fare: €1.00 per ride; Card purchase: €3.50; Available at vending machines. 
  • Arriva Piran mobile app
    Fare: €1.00 per ride 
  • Visa or Mastercard contactless payment
    Fare: €2.00 per ride 

CASH PAYMENT IS NOT ACCEPTED.

Cards can be purchased at Lucija Bus Station or green ticket machines (locations: Lucija, Portorož, and Piran).
Initial cost: €3.50

Top-up methods: cash or card at vending machines.

Tip for families/groups: One card can be used for multiple passengers. Simply inform the driver how many rides to deduct from the card balance when boarding.

How to buy at a machine:
Press the button labeled “Buy New Card”, select a payment method (cash or card), and follow the instructions. If you pay more than €3.50 in cash, the machine will load the excess amount onto the card instead of giving change. Audio and on-screen prompts guide you through the entire process.

Piran mini bus


In Piran, a mini bus service connects major parking facilities with Tartini Square.


Line Fornače (PH Amfora) – Tartini Square drives approx. every 15 minutes, line Arze (PH Arze) – Tartini Square: 4 times daily. Both lines operate on weekends and public holidays as well. Contactless ticket purchase is available directly on the bus for a symbolic price of €1.00. You can pay using the Arriva Piran mobile app, Visa or Mastercard, or the Single City Card Piran.

Strunjan mini bus


In Strunjan, access to the sea is made easier for visitors and locals by a free summer mini bus, connecting the main Strunjan bus station with the popular Krka bathing area.

The bus operates every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, from July 1st to the end of August.

The ride is free of charge, so we invite you to hop on and reach the sea worry-free.
