The Sailing Club Pirat Portorož (JK Pirat), in cooperation with the Sirena Maritime Club of Trieste, the Società velica Barcola e Grignano and with the support of the Slovenian Sailing Federation, will host the Open European Championship in the 420 class from 1 to 9 July.
The 420 class is not an Olympic class, but it serves as a preparation for young athletes before moving to other Olympic classes such as 470, 49er and others. This regatta will be the biggest event of the season for the Pirates, with around 250 crews expected. The sailors will test their strength in Piran Bay for six days of racing after the initial measurements of the boats.
Before the official start of the championship, the organisers are also inviting participants to a Warm up 420 Regatta – where the sailors will get to know the conditions in the bay better. In addition to the regatta, the organisers are also announcing a varied accompanying programme with concerts and other activities, to which they invite visitors, sports and music lovers.
