Romeo and Juliet is a full-length ballet based on William Shakespeare’s famous play, produced by the Slovenian Association of Ballet Artists in 2018. Romeo and Juliet is surely the most famous love story of all time. The two heroes of Shakespeare’s tragedy give a name to love itself. Is it not true that almost every man who experiences the intoxication of that sweet emotion called love recognises himself, at least for a moment, as Romeo? Or by that Latin-sounding name. Isn’t Juliet the image that every woman wants to find herself in when she feels that she will find her life in someone else?But the vision of the story is not only fulfilled in grace. It is a story of love and of hate, of rapture and also of impatience, of the sublime and also of the narrow-minded, a story of poetry and of violence. A story about a world of hate where love is fulfilled in death. A tragedy from the Renaissance world that speaks for all times and about all times, including our own.
