Bill Evans & The Vansband All Stars

Funk/Fusion/Jazz Concert of the Year: Bill Evans & The Vansband All Stars
  • Bill Evans – saxophones
  • John Medeski – keyboards, Hammond B-3, Fender Rhodes
  • Felix Pastorius – electric bass
  • Keith Carlock – drums
What do Miles Davis, Gregg Allman, Willie Nelson, Herbie Hancock and other legends have in common? The answer is: Bill Evans.
Inventive, contemporary and masterful. These are some of the words that describe the musicians in this unique group of Renaissance saxophonist Bill Evans. Bill has enjoyed a successful solo career spanning more than forty years. He started in 1980, at the age of twenty-one, in the band of the legendary trumpeter Miles Davis. He recorded several albums with him, including ‘The Man With The Horn’, ‘We Want Miles’, ‘Star People’. Bill has been influenced by Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Dave Liebman and Bob Berg. His music blended jazz, funk and bluegrass.
Bill Evans & The Vansband All Stars are together for the first time on a European tour. John Medeski is a pioneer and keyboard legend, Keith Carlock has been in the rhythm sections of great bands, Felix Pastorius has been one of the most important bassists for more than two decades and comes from the playing tradition of his father who defined a musical movement: Jaco Patorius (Miles Davis, Weather Report, Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny…) is probably one of the most influential musicians in history. They are all here because they want to be – making music and connecting with an audience that feels their infectious groove and melodies.
Bill says this: “We’ve all played in different projects over the years, and we’re very excited to finally be on the same stage together as a band, and to be making music together. We’ve been talking about this combination of musicians for years, and it’s finally happening!” This band will play music from their common backgrounds and influences – soul, funk, neo-jazz, pop. There are no boundaries.
