The chamber orchestra I Filarmonici di Roma was founded in 1976 by its leader, prof.
Guido Casarano. The ensemble has received high praise from its audiences and professional
critics from its first concert onwards. It has collaborated with many renowned
conductors and soloists but nowadays focuses on collaboration with violinist
and conductor Uto Ughi. Together they perform music ranging from Baroque era to
contemporary times. The orchestra performed at the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Respighi’s birth in Venice, at the festival Omaggio a
Venezia in honour of Arthur Rubinstein and regularly collaborates with the Italian
radio and television networks and recording labels (RCA Victor Red Scal,
BMG-Ricordi) as well as organises concerts for humanitarian purpose. The ensemble
also enchanted audiences in Canada (under the patronage of the Academy of St.
Cecilia), India, Middle East, Russia and various Baltic countries.
Uto Ughi is
considered to be the greatest living violinist in Italy. Apart from performing
with the largest renowned orchestras, he is very active in promoting classical
music culture. He is the founder of some of the largest musical festivals (Omaggio
a Venezia, Omaggio a Roma, Uto Ughi per Roma) and co-founder of the Una vita
per la Musica award. Among his many awards he proudly cherishes the title
of Knight Grand Cross.
