Church of Our Lady of the Rosary
Church, Nova vas
Perched on a scenic hill above Nova vas and surrounded by massive stone walls, the Baroque Church of Our Lady of the Rosary enchants visitors with its rich history, architecture, and views. First recorded in 1470, it was thoroughly renovated in 1763, extended with a choir gallery, and modified by partially removing the Gothic presbytery and raising the nave.
Its iconic 26.5-meter high bell tower, built in 1896 based on designs by Piran architect Giuseppe Moso, stands proudly next to the church. At the top is a stone statue of Saint Joseph. According to local legend, villagers funded the tower by selling Istrian garlic. The tower offers breathtaking panoramic views – a hidden gem for every traveler seeking beauty and serenity in Slovenian Istria.
