Church of St Rocco
Church, Piran
The Church of St. Roch, patron of the sick, disabled, and prisoners, was first documented in a Piran will from 1557. Its current Baroque appearance dates to the 17th century, with a single nave, rich stucco ceiling decoration, and a semi-circular apse featuring a round window (1649).
The focal point is a stone altar by Giovanni Battista Bettini, adorned with three wooden statues of Mary, St. Sebastian, and St. Roch (Michele Fanoli, 1729). Above hangs a gilded canopy from the late 19th century, crafted by Zarotti’s workshop. Notable features include the holy water font from Vrsar stone (1662), commissioned by the Confraternity of St. Roch. The roof and façade were restored in 2002, and the interior in 2004.
Access to the church is restricted.
