Marine Biology Station

National Institute of Biology, Marine Research

The Marine Biology Station Piran (MBP) is a research unit of the National Institute of Biology, located in Piran. Established in 1969, it is the only Slovenian institution dedicated exclusively to the study of marine ecosystems and monitoring their quality.

MBP researchers focus on physical, chemical, and biological oceanography. Their work includes marine environmental monitoring, development of oceanographic models, and participation in international projects and networks.

MBP regularly organizes open days, offering visitors insights into research equipment, laboratories, and current projects. These events provide an opportunity to deepen understanding of marine processes and the importance of marine environmental protection.
