Strunjan cross
Viewpoint
Strunjanski križ is a viewpoint located in the Strunjan Landscape Park, perched on a cliff above Moon Bay, between Izola and Piran. Several marked trails lead to the site, the shortest taking about 20 minutes from the center of Strunjan. At 53 meters above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and, on clear days, all the way to Triglav. The site also has historical significance – according to local legend, the Virgin Mary appeared here during a storm, calming the sea, which led to the erection of the cross as a symbol of protection. The area is known for the highest flysch cliffs on the Adriatic and is part of a protected natural park. The trails are easy and suitable for most visitors, with no special equipment required. Parking is available nearby, and the best time to visit is in spring or autumn, when the weather is pleasant and crowds are smaller. Strunjanski križ offers a short hike enriched with cultural and natural features, and can be combined with visits to Strunjan Salt Pans, Stjuža Lagoon, and other nearby attractions.
