Experience Peace, Nature, and Heritage in the Strunjan Landscape Park
Strunjan Landscape Park is a unique natural area of the Slovenian coast, where a relatively small space brings together a blend of rich natural heritage, cultural landscape, and significant historical traditions. The park is an ideal destination for those seeking a connection with nature, an escape from daily bustle, or the chance to walk, observe birds, or simply enjoy the peaceful coastal environment.
Sea
The longest stretch of natural coastline in the Gulf of Trieste offers visitors a sense of openness, space, and tranquility. In the shallows, underwater seagrass meadows develop, essential for preserving marine life and water purity.
Cliff
Rising above the coastline is the highest cliff of the Adriatic, standing 80 meters tall and offering breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding landscape. Along the edge trail, visitors can stroll past pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation, admiring natural silhouettes shaped by time.
Stjuža Lagoon
At the base of the cliff lies the only Slovenian sea lagoon – Stjuža, an important refuge for birds and aquatic species. Nature breathes in its own rhythm here, while visitors can quietly observe lagoon life from wooden observation points.
Salt Pans
The Strunjan salt pans are small yet highly valuable. With more than 700 years of natural salt production tradition, they reflect a sustainable relationship with the environment. Besides their historical importance, they serve as a habitat for unique halophilic species.
Cultural Landscape
In the park, people and nature coexist respectfully. Characteristic terraces, dry-stone walls, and vineyards testify to centuries of adaptation to natural conditions. This mosaic landscape gives the park its distinct look and character.
