Tartini Theatre Piran
Theatre
The Tartini Theatre is a fine example of a fin-de-siècle artwork, blending historicism and Art Nouveau styles from the early 20th century. It was designed by Trieste-based architect Giacomo Zammattio, with interior decoration by painter Napoleone Cozzi, who also worked on the Politeama Rossetti Theatre in Trieste.
It was inaugurated on March 27, 1910, and dedicated to the famous Piran-born violinist Giuseppe Tartini. On the opening day, the tragedy Fedra by Umberto Bozzini was performed.
Originally used for theatre performances and concerts, the theatre also hosted silent film screenings, and over time became a city hall venue for meetings, celebrations, and cultural events.
The theatre offers 260 seats (stalls, balcony, boxes, gallery). The stage measures 11 x 9 m, with a height of 7 m.
