Uživajmo podeželje: prvi kolesarsko-pohodniški vodnik po Slovenski Istri

The brochure “Enjoy the Hinterland” is the first guide of cycling, hiking and horseback riding trails of Slovenian Istria. Sport lovers will find in the guide 17 different cycling trails, 19 hiking trails and 3 horseback riding trails, making it 39 trails altogether. The brochure will be available free of charge in tourist information offices in all three coastal municipalities in Slovenian-Italian and English-German versions. Soon it will be available on www.portoroz.si as an interactive map and after 30 July it will be also available as a mobile application in the Slovene, Italian, German, English and Russian languages. The guide has been put together by the Portorož Tourist Board in collaboration with the Tourist Associations Izola and Koper Tourist Organization. Goran Sambt said: “This brochure will certainly be very popular, as according to the Slovenian Cycling Federation, Slovenia has nearly 300,000 recreational cyclists. Slovenian Istria, in comparison to other parts of our country, has a huge advantage; it is suitable for cycling almost throughout the whole year.”

Many Slovenian hotels, hostels and tourist farms are friendly to cyclists
and those are labelled with 1 to 5 bikes. The municipality of Piran has three such hotels; Hotel Salinera and Hotel Svoboda in Strunjan have one bike label, which means that they offer information on surrounding cycling trails and a safe bicycle storage. They also have the basic equipment for bike service, a washing area for bikes and a laundry room for cycling equipment. They offer a rich carbohydrate breakfast, first aid and transportation to the nearest bike mechanic office.
Recently as well, the Hotel Tomi in Portorož gained a 3-bike label, as their staff are able to advise and design cycle paths upon request, organise guided cycling tours in the surrounding area and help to book further accommodation in other places. Hotel Tomi has a safe storage room for bicycles, some basic equipment for bike service and nine electric and four ordinary bicycles to rent.
